What is The 22?
The 22, at the22.ai, is an online dating website for adults 18+. Its member experience is designed around real recorded introductions, personal invitations and planned 20-minute dates in shared virtual venues.
The name is The 22, written with two 2s. Our official website is the22.ai, where you can explore the demo and join the worldwide waitlist.
The public demo is available now. Member dating hasn’t opened yet, and the free waitlist welcomes interest from anywhere in the world. There is no announced launch date.

How does dating on The 22 work?
The planned member journey has four steps:
- Introduce yourself. Record answers in your own words. Someone can hear your voice and see how you tell a story before deciding whether to meet.
- Make a personal invitation. If an introduction catches your interest, ask that person out. Your own recorded answers accompany the invitation, so they can get a sense of you too.
- Agree on a plan. After an invitation is accepted, a few short messages help you choose a venue and time. Either person can suggest another time; both confirm before the date.
- Spend twenty minutes together. Meet in a shared virtual setting with real voice and optional camera. Talk, explore or try an optional activity. Either person can leave whenever they choose.
The point is a first conversation with something to look forward to. There’s no requirement to feel an instant spark or commit to another date.
An alternative to swiping through dating profiles.
If you’re exploring new dating apps or dating websites, The 22 offers a different starting point: a person’s recorded introduction and a specific invitation. You have a voice, a story and a proposed date to respond to.
That doesn’t mean you need to identify with one particular dating style. The experience is open to adults who are curious about meeting through conversation and shared time. Read more about our approach to dating without swiping.
What makes the virtual date different?
The 22 gives two people a shared place to meet: a lantern-lit rooftop, a jazz lounge or a seaside terrace. The setting is virtual; the other person’s voice and conversation are real.
Optional activities give you another way to spend time together, but you can simply talk. You can explore the virtual date venues before trying a room. A phone or computer is enough; an immersive option is available in Meta Quest Browser, with device features still being tested.
Are you dating real people or AI?
The member dating experience is for two real people. AI helps with camera background effects on your device, and AI-created artwork supplies the venue scenery. It doesn’t write someone’s answers or speak for them on a date.
The solo demo is different: it uses clearly labeled fictional characters and scripted sample introductions to show the idea. You can also invite someone you already know into a private demo room for real voice and optional video. The public demo does not match you with a new person.
Can I join from anywhere?
Yes. The free worldwide waitlist is open to adults 18+. Your city and country help us understand interest and plan access. Joining doesn’t book a date, publish a dating profile or guarantee a match or immediate access.
Join with your name, email, age and location — no account needed. The public demo can also be explored without signing in. Early member access will roll out in stages.
